Unidos do Ritmo – Leeds Samba is a drumming and dance group open to samba enthusiasts of all ages and origins. Unidos em Ritmo (United in Rhythm) formed in 2016, to be an authentic and regular ‘samba club’ or escola de samba for West Yorkshire and beyond.
Our style is the traditional/contemporary urban samba of Brazil, and we enjoy friendship with sambistas all over the UK and the world including close links to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Lagos, Brighton and London.
Carnival, shows & events
Unidos do Ritmo brings the sights and sounds of UK-Brazilian samba to carnival, stage and street events. Members have performed at countless carnival events including Leeds Light Night, Liverpool Brazilica, Brighton Pride Parade with the Brighton School of Samba, Notting HIll Carnival, and Leeds’ own Chapeltown West Indian Carnival.

Joining Leeds Samba?
Drummers and dancers attend weekly sessions to develop and master the rhythms, skills and material that power our performances.
The bateria – drum orchestra – is directed by Gez, our mestre de Bateria. The group works to play modern samba instruments in traditional and contemporary styles. Having fun and playing loud, people get to grips with the art of samba by playing it for real within a friendly group.
The principal dancer and Madrinha of Unidos do Ritmo, Thali teaches samba dance classes every week, giving students a solid grounding in the traditions of samba and Brazilian carnival. Learn to samba, get fit, develop body confidence and have a lot of fun working towards spectacular costumed performances.
